April 2013 saw A Cappella West present their version of Ye Olde Time Music Hall supported with performances by Barret Oliver, Hi-Jinx Quartet and members of the Upper Downdarranup Community (shhhh dont tell anyone it’s really A Cappella West in their alter ego roles). Much fun was had by audience and members alike.

Worlds Greatest Shave 2013

In March 2013, A Cappella West again supported the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave by braving the Cockburn Gateway Shopping Centre crowd to sing for those shaving or colouring their hair.

A Cappella West spread Christmas cheer around the cities of Fremantle, Perth and Melville, as well as singing at Murdoch Universite and at St John of God Hospital in Murdoch and their ‘Carols By Candlelight’.

Dunsborough SongFest

ACW headed to the south west to participate in the Dunsborough Spring Songfest in November. Our musical leaders and chorus were busy the whole weekend with commitments to several workshops and performances.

Hi-Jinx Represent Australia

ACW is very proud of Regional Quartet Champions, Hi-Jinx . The quartet represented Australia on the International stage in Denver, competing on Halloween night 2012. We had a concert at the Perth Modern School with performances by Alliance Quartet, Naya Chorale, ACW and of course, Hi-Jinx who wowed the crowd with some fantastic new songs. They truly deserved the standing ovation they received.

This is Brenda Hendricks.

Brenda came to A Cappella West to attend a vocal course in February 2011. A couple of weeks into the course her brain cancer returned and she had to undergo immediate surgery. Brenda loved the singing and came back to join ACW in March 2011.

Brenda has recently been advised by her doctors that the ongoing treatment has not been successful. Brenda’s best chance for survival is to commence treatment not yet available on the PBS (Pharmaceutical Benefit Scheme) which will cost her and her family $25,000 starting as soon as possible. If the treatment is successful, the drug company, Roche, will pick up the cost of the medication, but Brenda must pay for the first 3 months herself.

At ACW we consider ourselves part of Brenda’s family and as such, we are keen to help in raising the funds needed for this treatment.

Thankyou to all who supported the Celebrate Life Benefit Concert for Brenda on Saturday night, 10th September 2011. The final total raised was $14070. Raising over half of what Brenda needs for her treatment is awesome!!

Our sincere thanks again to our performers, Fremantle Town Hall, Community Newspapers, our families & friends, our donors & sponsors, and the wider community. Without you all, we could not have achieved this fabulous result.

As of November 2011, the treatment has proven successful and her costs have been picked up by the drug company!

Celebrate Leeming Community Fair 2011

A Cappella West was invited to perform at this annual community fair and once again, we wowed the audience as did iCappella!!! They too were on fire! We were all very well received and Ken Leehman (from Leeming Concert Band and the organiser of ’Celebrate Leeming’) loved what we did and is keen to work with us again. The Mayor of Leeming was there also for our performance and yet again was amazed. It is so exciting to be part of the City of Melville community.

It was a lovely morning in Leeming with lots to see and buy. The Leeming Concert Band was terrific – what a wonderful oppportunity this was to be able to contribute what we love to do – back to the community! Whenever we sing at events like this I always come away feeling so proud of us and what we do. It is just a wonderful feeling.

“I would like to say a huge and sincere thank you on behalf of the Celebrate Leeming event management committee for your participation in our community fair. A Cappella West are truly a talented and professional act. We all enjoyed your performance immensely and know it was certainly popular with the public who attended the event. We would like to wish your quartet all the best in the national competition in May – hope they do well!
The feedback I have received about the fair from the community has been very positive, without exception all expressing a desire to see the event staged again in 2012.

Vocal Course Graduates!

Congratulations to our 28 graduates for completing the 6 week vocal course! Although we ended up outside a few times due to the school building works, that didn’t seem to dampen any spirits (in fact it was cooler out there!) and it was great to hear your enthusiasm and amazing progress as the weeks went by.
